Over the centuries, the Association has transformed itself to respond to changes in society and attitudes. From a model focused on assistance, it has moved towards self-promotion and active participation by the poor, creating services open to the community and encouraging people in difficulty to take a leading role. Today, at every level – local and international – the focus is on prevention, empowerment, defending rights, fighting injustice and building a culture of justice and solidarity. To achieve these goals, community involvement is essential: parishes, public bodies, associations and citizens collaborate in the planning and implementation of initiatives. No profound change is possible alone: this is why Vincentian groups work in networks, building alliances and partnerships that strengthen the impact of their actions in the community.
