Collection and distribution of food and medicines

Food distribution: helping families in need

Almost all of the Lombardy groups belonging to the Vincentian Volunteer Groups run a food distribution service for families experiencing financial hardship. The food parcels, which are distributed periodically, come from various sources of solidarity: collections in parishes, agreements with local supermarkets, and above all thanks to ongoing collaboration with the Food Bank.

Many groups also organize the distribution of fresh food, such as fruit, vegetables, bread, and dairy products, made available through partnerships with local supermarkets and the Food Bank itself. This allows them to offer not only ongoing support but also a more balanced and dignified diet for those receiving assistance.

GVV Lombardia volunteers also actively participate in food collection days promoted by local authorities, municipalities, and the Food Bank network, helping to keep the solidarity circuit alive.

Medicine donations: caring for the health of those most in need

In addition to their commitment to food distribution, many GVV groups also provide a medicine donation service, thanks to an agreement with Banco Farmaceutico. Some groups have set up a real “pharmaceutical cabinet,” managed by a volunteer with specific skills, to organize the collection, storage, and delivery of donated medicines.

Every year, GVV Lombardia volunteers participate in national collections organized in participating pharmacies, helping to ensure access to basic medicines for those who otherwise could not afford them. It is a simple gesture, but one that can make a difference in the daily lives of many vulnerable people.
